| Description | The body naturally manufactures a small amount of glucosamine (pronounced glue-KOSE-a-mean) which is a farly simple molecule that contains sugar glucose. It is found in relatively high concentrations in the joints and connective tissues where the body uses it for cartilage repair and maintenance. |
| Uses | Various forms are available, including glucosamine sulfate, and N-acetyl-glucosamine (NAG). Glucosamine sulfate is the preferred form for arthritis. Glucosamine is readly used by the body and 90% to 98% is absorbed through the intestine and appears to be very effective for this condition. |

| Possible Side Effects | Glucosamine is a natural substance produced in the body and is virtually free of side effects. Gastrointestinal effects, such as heartburn or nausea, occur rarely. |
